Hello, Just read the chapter that talks about dream boards, was wondering if any of you all have made any and if you have any advice. I plan on making my first one soon :~) God bless, Cody
From the Slight Edge:
They are the four universal truths of reaching for a big dream. For a goal to come true:
You must write it down,
Make it specific and give it a deadline.
You must have a plan to start with.
You must understand and pay the price.
You must look at it every day.
This is a task that I look foward to every December of every year! I sometimes call it a vision board, but they work all the same. I take a list of my goals in each area (career, financial, social, family, physical, mental/personal development, and spiritual) and I search for a picture that I can use to represent each goal. Example: a small bottle that has a mustard seed inside of it and a key chain attached to the outside that reads "faith." This represents my goal to grow my faith like a mustard seed. My vision boards include new goals (some tangible and others are new habits that I want to develop), and previous goals that I want to continue to improve on (like runnng a mile faster, etc) or that lead to a long-term goal. The intangible goals are the most challenging to find pictures for! Be creative!
I print the picture, cut and paste it to a piece of construction paper, poster board or whatever your preference. Next to it, I write the goal ("I am" statement) and the benefits of that goal. That's it! I have been creating vision boards for 3 years now so I'm beginning to add other elements like my intention statement, inspirational quotes that relate to each goal, and additional pages that encourage me to be my best!
I use an weekly agenda that I purchased from Walmart or Staples as my everyday task manager. Most agendas come with November and December of the previous year (or January 2013!), so I use the December pages of 2012 to do whatever I choose to. I glue my "vision boards" to those pages with double-sided tape and I can review my goals everyday! Or you can use a vision board available for purchase from JackCanfield.com. These are more for display and offer a more professional look! Good luck and let me know if there is anything that I can do to help!
