Cardio VS. Resistance Training

  • Cardio: Probably the most cherished side effect of cardiovascular training is losing those unwanted pounds! Since your body's fat storage is based on the equation of energy in versus energy out (calories in versus calories burned), the more energy/calories used means the less fat you will have stored on your waist, hips and thighs. Cardio burns fat for energy NOW.

Resistance Training: is the one thing that we can do that elevates our metabolism for hours after a workout; this is also known as the AFTER BURN. Cardiovascular workouts are effective and necessary, but after cardio your metabolism is only elevated for less than an hour before going back to normal. On the other hand, resistance training will literally raise your metabolism permanently. This happens because resistance training is actually a process of breaking down muscle tissue and rebuilding it back stronger, smaller and firmer. This process takes time and energy (calories). Once you have added lean muscle to your body it will then take even more energy to maintain your new lean muscle.
