Do the Deed and You Shall Have The Power

  • Someone has said that writing is easy. Simply sit in front of the computer and open a vein. He has a point. Sometimes writing books is agony, especially for perfectionists, of which I am definitely one.

But as I roam through Amazon.com or throgh my local bookstore, it is not long before I realize that people no smarter or better educated than I have written books, and many have been written on ideas and by people lacking any power to intimidate me or make me feel inferor. Lately I have been reminding myself, "If they can, surely you can too!"

So I have planned to publish three books in the next two years, and want to publish another seven by 2018, God willing,  I am knee deep in what promises to be the toughest of these books right now.

And as I write, Emerson's epigram passed on by Jeff Olson offers me some cormfort:  If I do the deed, I will have the power, in this case, the influence and crediblity that comes from having published a good book, or three, or God willing, ten that deserve to see the light of day.

I am grateful for the sane and methodical approach advocated by the Slight Edge which renders all of this attainable in incremental steps, consistently taken.  The wisdom of the Slight Edge approach has made what was formerly O so threatening seem so managaable.

You might even call it fun!

Dennis Bell You make excellent points about not being intimidated by others' accomplishements or achievements. Great goals too Stuart! Maybe in your case we should say, WRITE 10 pages of a good book each day! I look forward to reading those books!
