Listen to the whispers

  • My friend and Slight Edge community member, Gianna White, reminded me of this quote yesterday by Oprah Winfrey, “The universe speaks to us always first in whispers….and if you don’t pay attention to the whisper, it gets louder and louder…”

It seem to me that sometimes we are at cross purposes with our own destiny. We push and push in a certain direction and the universe keeps poking and prodding but we don't listen.

From a Slight Edge point of view, how do we reconcile the fact that Oprah herself didn't let failure get in her way with potentially being on the wrong path? How did she know the difference between "never give up" and the universe telling her that her destiny might be in a different direction? This could apply to any of our favorite failure/success examples... Edison, Lincoln.

Another Oprah qoute: “Everybody’s life has a pattern…that’s really how you get to determine what your purpose it.  If you don’t know your purpose, that’s your immediate goal.”

There is a certain fallacy in thinking that we can determine our ultimate purpose by setting down and figuring it out. Some people can and do have this gift, however, the average person must "reshuffle the deck" many times before a purpose becomes clear. But we CAN and should take a look at our assets, passions and opportunities within a viable window in time and take that journey.

A tool that I find extremely helpful is "StrengthsFinder 2.0." This book highlights your top 5 talents, the characteristics you have that when applied to anything, help you bring your passion to the table.

How did you find YOUR purpose? What do you think about the universes whispers?

Andrea Scott The key is that you have to get quiet enough to listen to the Universe. It's only as I've developed meditative practices that I'm quiet enough to hear God's voice. Then I will know what the next step is.
